36 Hours in Athens, Greece

Are you trying to plan a short trip in Athens to see the beautiful history before heading to one of the Greecan islands? My wife and I spent 36 Hours in Athens in April 2022 and here's all we accomplished:

Upon arriving at the Athens airport from Frankfurt, Germany around 11am, we collected our baggage, and headed to the rental car location in the airport. After filing out paperwork, we were directed to go outside to the lot. In true "us fashion," we took a wrong turn and had to play frogger across the lanes of traffic at the airport trying to get where we needed to be. We eventually made it and got our tiny clown car. It was an automatic, but shifted gears as though it was a manual being driven by someone who had never driven stick before. From here we ventured out to our AirBnB.

Our AirBnB had the most magical view of the Parthenon on the hill; it was truly spectacular. We relaxed and changed clothes, and took a few photos before heading back out. We ventured out to the Cape of Vouliagmenis to take in the beautiful ocean views. From above with the drone, the jutting land looks like that of a fish fin and tail . After greeting the cats, getting splashed by waves, and taking a boat load of photos, we headed to eat some pasta. From here we headed to the Temple of Poseidon. We watched the sun set behind the ocean cliffs, casting a gorgeous orange glow upon the Temple of Poseidon. It was very windy and cold and we were not properly dressed but that's neither here nor there.

The next day, we had a 4 hour, guided tour of the ancient Greek ruins. We saw The Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, Theater of Dionysus, Temple of Athena, The Erechtheion, The Parthenon, Temple of Haphaestus, and The Ancient Agora (where we lost our tour group and spent 40 mins trying to find them with no way of contacting them; we eventually found them). On our way to find food, we came across a vendor making tiny books with personalized messages inside and just had to grab one; I mean how cute and unique is that! We then enjoyed some traditional Greek food with live music. Later that evening, we had a Greek sculpture class where we were able to sculpt and take home our own personal Greek face. It was truly a blast, despite our sculpting abilities….or lack there of.

The next morning we headed to the airport to go to the beautiful island of Santorini.
